Because indigenous, riverside and young women from the Amazon need to gain their independence through generating their own income.
Tribal and riverine communities
Even if they remain in their villages, the advancement of the western society into the previously isolated rainforest has brought profound changes in the life of Amazonian communities. It impacted gender roles and forced those communities into a cash economy, creating new needs and aspirations. Women and young people seek to have an income in order to be able to purchase goods and services.
Urban
Indigenous women and youth receive little or no support in cities and experience discrimination and poverty. Many indigenous families living in cities need a fixed income. Without money there is no way to pay the bills, get dressed or eat. It is up to the women to provide income and they end up as low paid domestic workers due to the lack of training.
